from the web site: 'Internet Keywords Goodbye Domain Names, Hello ActualNames! ActualNames: Enabling Everyday Words on the Everyday Web. While using the Netscape, Explorer, or AOL browser, it is now possible to enter a particular word or keyword phrase that is associated with your business, and immediately be directed to YOUR WEBSITE! The Actual Names technology can do this for you. ActualNames.com has solved one of the biggest frustrations people have with the Internet today, by eliminating the complexity of finding the right web site. Most sites have arcane domain names and URLs that either have very little to do with their content or are virtually impossible to remember. For instance, who would guess that the United Airlines home page is at www.ual.com, rather than www.united.com? Or, that if you wanted information about Ford cars and trucks, you'd go to www.fordvehicles.com, instead of simply ford.com? Even if you know the domain name of a web site, it's impossible to go directly to a specific page within that site, e.g., (remove ‘you want’) to get information about United's frequent flyer program (no comma) or a specific Ford vehicle. Searching the Internet is frustrating for consumers because it's not intuitive. And it's a problem for companies, because they'd like to seamlessly extend their trademarks and brand names into the online world. ActualNames' Internet Keywords system was expressly designed to address this problem. For example, keywords like “real estate,” “travel,” “insurance,” or any keyword or phrase that relates to your business, can pull end-users from their browser search directly to Your website. Typically, when searching, end-users find websites on the Internet by using search engines like Yahoo. They type in a word pertaining to the business they are interested in, and a very long list of websites comes up. With our clients, when you type in a keyword in the browser address bar, users are sent directly to a website related to that keyword. These days, advertisers not only seek out consumers, but consumers seek out advertisers for places to go, things to buy, and websites to visit. With ActualNames Keyword Phrases, you can buy keyword phrases that relate to the products or services you have to offer. Then, when someone searches the Internet using those (was misspelled) words, she/he will immediately be sent to YOUR WEBSITE! What could be more targeted? ActualNames is committed to the concept of the "Everyday Web," and there's nothing more fundamental to that vision than the words we associate with everyday things. If you are looking for a simple way to create an online presence for your business, ActualNames' Internet Keyword system is your solution. ActualNames is your direct link to some of the Web's most valuable opportunities. When Web users type your keywords into their browsers' address box, they are sent straight to your site. Hijacker: Any software that resets your browser's settings to point to other sites. Hijacks may reroute your info and address requests through an unseen site, capturing that info. In such hijacks, your browser may behave normally, but be slower. Browser Helper Object: (BHO). A component that Internet Explorer will load whenever it starts, shares IE's memory context, can perform any action on the available windows and modules. A BHO can detect events, create windows to display additional information on a viewed page, monitor messages and actions. Microsoft calls it "a spy we send to infiltrate the browser's land." BHOs are not stopped by personal firewalls, because they are seen by the firewall as your browser itself. Some exploits of this technology search all pages you view in IE and replace banner advertisements with other ads. Some monitor and report on your actions. Some change your home page. Toolbar: A group of buttons which perform common tasks. A toolbar for Internet Explorer is nomally located below the menu bar at the top of the form. Toolbars may be created by Browser Helper Objects. |
